Info for users of pesticides in the production of agricultural plants on farms, in forests, nurseries and greenhouses Worker Protection Standard requirements and info on reducing the risk of pesticide-related injury. Enforcement and Compliance assistance. Also see the Registration of Pesticide Products for information on Section 18 and 24(c) registrations in Virginia and to search for new or renewed products in Virginia.

The Virginia IR-4 Project--Virginia The IR-4 Minor Use Pest Control Clearance Program was established in 1963 by the state land-grant university agricultural experiment stations. IR-4 is a partnership between agricultural producers, land-grant universities, government, and chemical manufacturers. Today, IR-4 conducts research on chemical and biological pest controls. The purpose of IR-4 is to establish pest controls for minor use crops (commodities with low acreages nationally, i.e., fruits, vegetables, and other specialty uses). IR-4 is important to Virginia's agricultural industry because ours is one of the more diverse industries in the United States.

Virginia Pesticide Safety Education Program--Pesticide Safety Education (PSE) in Virginia is a statewide educational program with an overall goal to protect the environment and the public health from improper pesticide use through applicator and public education.

Virginia Tech Pesticide Programs (VTPP)--Information on pesticides, pesticide safety, educational opportunities, and related services. Pesticide applicator certification and pesticide licensing information. Also see the Virginia Pest Management Information Program at VTPP ...the Virginia component of the Southern IPM Center For Virginia Crop Profiles and Pest Management Strategic Plans. Virginia and other states are developing crop profiles and pest management strategic plans to help the USDA and the EPA maintain important pest management tools as their registrations are challenged by the Food Quality Protection Act (FQPA). There is a lot of other very useful information here.

The IR-4 Project provides safe and effective pest management solutions for specialty crop growers. IR-4 works continually with growers, scientists and commodity organizations to identify minor crop pest control needs. Anyone can submit a research request by filling out the Project Clearance Request (PCR) form on this web site. The requests are prioritized yearly and research assignments are made. In response to the 1996 Food Quality Protection Act (FQPA), reduced risk and safer chemistry projects now account for 80% of IR-4's research.
